The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and ICRAF will focus on supporting conservation of natural resources in Central Africa. The development of income generating activities of the populations of the tri-national of the Sangha (TNS) through the development of agroforesrty and commerce in priority products for the farmers, without compromising the conservation of biodiversity is a priority for the Congo.

In this project ICRAF will work around the protected areas in Congo. The surrounding populations of these protected areas are getting poorer because of the restrictions imposed upon them not to exercise activities in the protected areas. Tree domestication, agroforestry and marketing of high value products are some of the solutions proposed by ICRAF.

Therefore, the following objectives are to be attained.1. Develop the present markets on non-timber forest products (NTFPs), traditional agricultural products (TAPs) and other products exploited by the local populations of TNS.

2. Improve the capacities of the actors directly concerned in the production, transformation, conservation and commercialization to enable them sell more and better within the existing and potential markets with a spirit of enterprise and marketing; and,

3. Put in place a sustainable strategy, conciliating the development and the functioning of protected areas of TNS.
