Overview

The pre-condition for enhanced rice productivity in inland valley systems is improved water control. The Asian Sawah system offers a low cost opportunity for rice intensification. The term Sawah refers to leveled, bunded and puddled rice fields with water inlets and outlets in order to control water and facilitate soil fertility management. This project will adapt the Sawah system to African conditions building on previous experience from Ghana and Nigeria
