Overview

The specific objectives of this project are:

  • Understand the socio-economic factors that determine current management of fallows and the overall planning and diversity of farms and farming landscapes
  • Develop improved and diversified fallows to enhance the restoration of soil fertility, increase plot level productivity and profitability, and contribute to agroecosystem resilience in the face of climate change at a representative site with typical hillslope soils in the Central Andes
  • Examine the role of farmscape composition and organization in overall farm productivity and agroecosystem functioning for farming in landscapes in three sites with contrasting socio-economic and environmental conditions.
