This project aims is to increase and conserve agrobiodiversity of poroto bean as a mechanism to improve production systems, food security, and nutrition in vulnerable communities in urban and rural areas of Panama. This includes activities such as characterizing and evaluating local and introduced germplasm of poroto bean for their agronomic performance and nutritional content. Furthermore we aim to preserve the diversity of the poroto bean in Panama to prevent its loss, and use this as a basis to develop improved varieties with higher nutritional content.
