Overview

This project aims to create a research site for the evaluation of crops under low fertility conditions to develop germplasm of common bean and other crops that are tolerant of low fertility soils. The site in South Africa has been donated by Howard Buffet for research purposes, and is characterized by a sandy soil with very low native fertility. The site permits studying drought and low fertility (especially low available soil phosphorus) separately or in combination.
