Overview

The long-term objective of the project is to contribute to improved soil and water management, increased agricultural productivity, and reduced poverty and malnutrition in the rural areas of CAand China. The immediate purpose is to help policy makers in the region identify and implement policies that will further this goal. The specific objectives of the research include the following:

• to develop climate change scenarios for selected agro-ecosystems in the participating countries;

• to assess the vulnerability of the selected agro-ecosystems to threat resulting from climate change particularly drought on the basis of the developed climate change scenarios in the study area;

• to develop options and strategies to adapt to climate change so as build climate resilience in development planning in the target countries;

• to strengthen the capacity to conduct socioeconomic and policy research related to sustainable land management in the region.
